Liberal is a Midwest town with Midwest values. If you look at a map, you will see that Liberal is one of the few cities on the prairie that are not located on a river. Back in the wild west days, a man named Semore Rogers dug a water well. When the wagon trains came by, he would give them his water and he earned the reputation as being very "liberal" with his water, and the name stuck. That tradition continues today.
